Mad Max

For reasons long forgotten, two mighty warrior tribes went to war and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel they were nothing. They'd built a house of straw. The thundering machines sputtered and stopped. Their leaders talked and talked and talked, but nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. Cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men. On the roads it was a white-line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice. And in this maelstrom of decay, ordinary men were battered and smashed.

I think that the Stranger and the dog Max (Warlands ABGWL021) produced by Aberant Game is the only expy of Max Rockatansky in the 20mm world.

The Stranger is true 20mm, while the dog is enormously oversized.

To bring Max up to size, I lengthened both his torso and his legs. I felt the torso (or perhaps the jacket) looked too short, and needed modification to look proportional.

While I was at it, I fixed his hair a bit, added a leg brace, and switched the boot knife on his left to the right.

The right sleeve of Max's jacket is missing in the movie, but it would have been too much effort to modify the miniature. I'll just say he's wearing a long sleeved shirt under the jacket like he did in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

I probably should have smoothed out the sculpted eyes of the figure, but since I didn't, I had to paint them. Because of this, he is somewhat bug-eyed in close-up.

Monogram Pocket Force Die Cast Warriors

I was doing a bit of tidying up in the workshop, and unearthed some supposedly 1/72 figures that I was saving for a Monogram/Marx article that I had planned out in my head, but never got around to actually write.

I first read about these figures over at Small Scale World, where Hugh does a nice job of explaining their origins.

Four other sets are listed on the back of the packaging, but I have never seen them being sold anywhere.

The figures are really tall, and pretty much the same as 25mm gaming figures (~1/64). The Viet Cong however, are a head shorter than the other figures which is a nice touch.

Unfortunately for the 1st Infantry set, I ended up with two of the last pose, and am missing the bazooka man. It's funny that I didn't notice for years, but now that its finally come to my attention, my collector's mentality is telling me that I should get another set to complete the full set of poses.

Colonia Security vs The Green Slime

Despite having to endure a salary cut due to the current COVID-19 situation, I went ahead and placed an order with Khurasan Miniatures which came in the mail today.

I'm only going to show the science fiction miniatures I received, and leave the rest for future posts.

First up are the Tentacled Starbeasts, which are essentially the space monsters from the Kinji Fukasaku film The Green Slime.

There are three different poses waving their electrified tentacles as they search for victims.

The miniatures are undersized, but the creatures in the film vary in height, so these three can represent immature slimes.

Next are 20mm sci fi miniatures from Khurasan's Under Three Suns line, which apparently is their take on James Cameron's Avatar.

The line currently only contains the Colonia Security set, which are the colonial security forces of the Western nations.

The set consists of seven different poses in battledress with exoskeleton frame.

The figures are well sculpted, and I like the look of their suits, but I wish they were just a tiny bit taller.

I'm not sure how I'm going to use these figures or how to paint them up, so they'll probably languish in the lead pile until something catches my imagination.
